At least two of the most recognizable names from the U.S. women's national soccer team might not play at Heinz Field on Sunday.
Goalkeeper Hope Solo and forward Alex Morgan are both questionable for the 1:30 p.m. Costa Rica friendly, the first stop on a 10-game victory tour for the U.S., which won its third FIFA Women's World Cup last month. Solo sustained a knee injury during the World Cup while Morgan had minor knee surgery July 17. They each have not yet played for their National Women's Soccer League teams.
Forward Sydney Leroux is also out for sure after having right ankle surgery in mid-July.
But even if some are sidelined, all 23 players from the World Cup-winning team will make the trip to Pittsburgh, including stars midfielder Carli Lloyd, forward Abby Wambach and Richland native defender Meghan Klingenberg. For a peek at all the players before the match, the team will hold a free and open to the public practice at 11 a.m. Saturday at Heinz Field.
More than 41,000 tickets have been sold for the game, with ample 500-level seats still available, as well as some 100-level, 200-level and club seats. Tickets can be purchased through ussoccer.com and 1-800-745-3000 as well as Ticketmaster ticket centers in Pittsburgh. Prices range from $28 to $90.
