Clinton H. 'Big Hands' Mills, 92, of Roanoke has gone home to join the Heavenly fold on Friday, December 5, 2014. He retired as Captain from the Roanoke City Fire Department. He was a deacon and a member of Garden City Baptist Church and then at Waverly Place Baptist Church. Besides being a fire fighter, Clinton loved to hunt and fish. He was a craftsman, builder, inventor and thoroughly enjoyed painting and singing.He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marie R. Mills; parents, Stanley and Folsom Mills; five brothers, Otho, Alvie, Wilford 'Wick', Wendell and Arnold Mills; two sisters, Ruth M. Green, Audrey Mills.He is survived by his children, Diane Shepherd and husband, Ronnie, Gary Mills and wife, Kay, Elaine Mills and partner, Suzie Briscoe, Drema Reynard and husband, Greg, Freddie Shepherd; grandchildren, Rhonda (Lynn) Marstin, Doug (Shannon) Shepherd, Dwayne (Tina) Shepherd, Dawn Meadows, Dustin King, Gregory Reynard, seventeen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sister, Irthel Simpson and husband, Lewis; numerous nieces and nephews; special 'son', Chuck Gorig and pet Dachshund, Precious.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Rev. Lynn Marstin officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. www.oakeys.com.
